The UFC is the biggest mixed martial arts organization in the world, and the fighters in the UFC are some of the fittest athletes in the world.
They say “to be a champion you have to train with the best”.
Here’s the good news:
Now you can too! With the new UFC Fit DVD you get to train with a system developed by UFC trainer Mike Dolce that focuses on losing weight, gaining muscle and improving cardio, much like a UFC fighter would before a fight.
Does it live up to the hype?
It might, but don’t expect that you will be able to take on Cain Velasquez, or Ronda Rousey… But you can get in fighting shape, “You put in the time you get the results”.
What Is The UFC Fit?
The UFC Fit workout program is a 12 week program using the same techniques as those who train for the octagon. The program is led by Mike Dolce and the aim of the program is to get you as fit as you possibly can be in 12 weeks.
Get a feel for the UFC Fit exercise program:
Who Is Behind It?
The mastermind of the program is Mike Dolce, who has been working with world class athletes in organizations like the UFC for 10 years, helping them get into shape for fights, gain muscle, perform at new levels, and cut weight before the weight ins.
Mike Dolce is also heavily into nutrition, and used to be quite overweight. He lost 100 pounds by changing his diet and training.
Mike Dolce is the real deal, a UFC fighter that works with the best of the best.
How Does The UFC Fit DVD Program Work?
The exercises in the DVD are similar to exercises fighters in the UFC use to get prepared for the octagon. This is highly specialized training techniques to lose calories, gain muscle and gain cardio.
It is a high intensity full body workout. You work your entire body, instead of just working some of the muscle groups.
The exercises target your whole body, all of the time.
You don’t have to be in shape to go through the UFC Fit DVD program, the goal is to get you in shape.
But you need to be in good enough shape to be able to be very active with your body, and move it intensely and freely.
This product is more focused on the young than the old, because of the intensity of the program, and the demanding exercises.
Included is also a basic but very good nutrition guide from Mike Dolce, which can be summarized with this advice from Mike: “eat real food, eat earth grown nutrients”. Not very complicated stuff, but very important. In my opinion much more important than counting calories.
About The Workouts
The exercises last around 30-45 minutes, and they barely give you a chance to rest. This is a high intensity program, but nobody is there to stop you if you press pause!
You are supposed to do one or two sessions per day.
Some exercises might seem tough, but you will be suggested exercises that are a little bit easier to do for those who are out of shape.
In the first couple of weeks you will build the strength, cardio, and flexibility that you need for the later parts of the videos.
What I Like About This Exercise Program
The exercises target the whole body, and not just separate muscle groups.
I believe this is the best way to train. When you train cardio, you get the blood flowing, and you oxygenize your body, which is very important for your general health.
This makes this exercise a very powerful tool that gives great results.
Some Downsides
A downside to the exercises is that they do require some fitness level, you don’t need to be very fit, but you need to be able to move your body freely.
You can be out of shape, but not crazy out of shape since it is high intensity training.
If you have knee injuries or knee pain you might want to look for something less intense, as there is a lot of bending going on.
This is a very challenging workout and the routines can be quite advanced, and it is more fitting for the youngish crowd, younger than 50 anyway.
The Nutrition Plan
Mike Dolce has a very allowing nutritional plan that lets you eat pasta, burgers and toast (but we are not talking MacDonald’s here folks, you need to cook it at home with healthy ingredients).
Basically what Mike Dolce is saying in his nutrition guide is eat real food, earth grown nutrients.
I totally agree with that concept. You cant get fit on a junk food diet, there is just not enough nutrients to power you, a good diet and exercise needs to go hand in hand.
3 Day Shred
Included is also something called the 3 Day Shred. This is a 3 day plan for losing weight that is based on Mike Dolces plan for fighters cutting weight before fights.
While Mike is obviously very successful, you can only lose so much fat in 3 days, and if you push yourself too hard, you might sit on day 4 and reward yourself with pizza and ice cream.
How Does The UFC Fit Compare To Rushfit?
The idea behind Rushfit is similar to that of the UFC Fit. Instead of lasting 12 weeks, it only lasts 8 weeks. One advantage of Rushfit is that there seems to be more options to choose intensity, you can choose between beginner, intermediate and advanced.
I will come back to this part again soon, when I review Rushfit later this month. I want to try it myself before I compare!
What Do Other Reviewers Say?
The UFC Fit has been getting really good reviews online, it really seems that people are loving the product, and they are getting good results. Several people describe the combination of the exercises and the Dolce diet as the key to the success.
The only negative reviews I could find were complaining about discs not working, or a missing DVD. This could happen with any product, and if the product you ordered is not fully functional you can of course return it and get a new one.
Summary
Pros
Comes with great nutritional advice
Full body workout
Real pro instructors, not smiling fakes
High intensity
Gives real results
Alternative exercises for those out of shape
Cons
Too high intensity for some
Price is fairly high
Not for people with bad knees
All in all this is a great product. And I may be over-sensitive about the knee thing, because I myself have some issues with that, but I could do the exercises fine.
I truly believe that the UFC Fit will get you in awesome shape if you follow through.
Common Questions We Get
-What if I can’t do some of the exercises?
You will be given suggestions to alternative exercises on the tough exercises in the DVD that you can do if you have problems with them.
-Will I lose weight?
If you stick to the program and if you stick to the Dolce Diet, yes, you will!
-Will I get as fit as the fighters in the UFC?
I don’t see that happening. And you won’t be able to knock out Rampage Jackson either…
-Is it good for women as well as men?
According to the reigning UFC womens bantam weight champion Ronda Rousey, yes it is. Many girls actually think it’s fun to punch and kick and get out some of that aggression. Everybody will not love it though, but there are no gender based limitations.
-Where can you do it?
In your own home, all you need is a couple of dumbbells. Preferably 2 light and 2 heavy.
